IHC is blessed to have Bill Bice assigned as our dedicated Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC, pronounced “M-FLAC”).
What is a Military Family Life Counselor? MFLCs are fully licensed counseling professionals who are assigned to schools with significant populations of students who are the children of military service members and Department of Defense Civilians. The MFLC program was established in 2004 to provide “front-line” support to families dealing with the unique challenges of military life. Last year, the Department of Defense expanded the program to parochial schools.
What services does a MFLC provide? In short, Mr. Bice is here as a resource to our military students, their parents, and their teachers. She is also here to support our entire school community on military issues that may affect all students; for example, a traumatic event. Please also review the following for thorough descriptions of MFLC services:
- Military Parent Letter – MFLC Consent form (2016-2017 School year)
- MFLC Program Fact Sheet
- MFLC Program Brochure
Is parental consent required to take advantage of MFLC services? Yes, Mr. Bice’s services require parental consent. Your child’s IHC application packet included a MFLC consent form which you should have completed upon their enrollment; however, you may download, complete and turn-in the MFLC Consent Form or obtain a form from the school front offices. Please complete one form for each child. All MFLC services are confidential and anonymous.
How can I reach Mr. Bice? Parents may call Mr. Bice directly and confidentially at (315) 709-2422, or ask for her through a teacher, a staff member, or an administrator. No written records are kept of any encounter or service provided.
