IHC’s performing arts program includes several stage productions each year. Students produce a variety show, a Christmas program with living nativity, a major musical, and a band and chorus concert. These events also incorporate multimedia collaboration with our visual arts program.
Parents and staff members play a significant role in supporting our drama department by helping backstage and with props, costumes, lighting and music. Approximately 90 junior and senior high school students acted, sang, and played instruments as part this year’s musical,“The Wind in the Willows,” which took 3 months of preparation. We usually hold one or more such plays per year, as well as a number of concerts put on by our band and chorus.
Each year, IHC Junior/Senior High School students showcase their diverse talents in the IHC Variety Show. The Variety Show contains a bit of everything, and often a few surprises: singing, dancing, comedy … even a unicyclist playing a violin.
IHC primary students (K-3), intermediate students (4-6) and junior/senior high school students (7-12) annually perform their own musicals for the IHC and broader community. These special events are a beloved school tradition. The Junior/Senior High School program includes a living nativity.
Junior/Senior High School Musical
Annually there is a school musical. Recent musicals include “The Wizard of Oz ” “The Wind in the Willows.” “Suessical” and “A Little Mermaid” In keeping with IHC tradition, students from IHC Elementary School were among the performers in each play. This year we are pleased to present THE ADDAMS FAMILY MUSICAL. Your whole family will be entertained by this spooky, kooky Broadway musical featuring America’s first family of fiendish fun. When Morticia and Gomez invite their daughter’s normal boyfriend and his straight laced family for dinner, what could possibly go wrong?
Junior/Senior High School Band and Chorus
The Junior and Senior High School band, which includes advanced players as well as beginner and intermediate musicians. The band plays during the Christmas program and the Spring Concert. We also have a Junior Chorus as well as a Senior Chorus. Both Choruses perform here at IHC, but also throughout the local area, such as the Jefferson County Historical Society, the local Salmon Run Mall, the Thompson Park Zoo, and several communities for the elderly.
Bi-County and New York State School Music Association
Some band and chorus members participate in the selective Bi-County and New York State School Music Association competitions, performances, and other events.
Intermediate School Band and Chorus
The Intermediate Band is made up of 5th and 6th grade students. Students participate in weekly instrumental lessons, as well as full band rehearsal. The band performed this year at our Celebration of the Arts, and will perform again at our Spring Concert. We also have an Intermediate Chorus that rehearses once a week. The chorus is open to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Last year the chorus performed for the Christmas concert, and at a spring concert. This year the chorus will be performing at a Spring Concert.
